VLM is committed to addressing the global context of poverty and promoting equality and advocating for change. Such ideals are not restricted to time and place, but are values we can work towards at home and abroad abroad.

For this reason we encourage and support our volunteers to continue working for the good of poor and marginalised in the Local Global Project.

Some of the projects we work alongside include;

* Chic and Cheerful
* Ethiopian Centre for Independent Living
* Fistula Alleviation Project
* Mekele Housing Project

VLM also acknowledges the regular contributions of profession, financial and moral support given by so many of our volunteers to various projects when they return home.

The Local Global Project :::

If you are unable to travel overseas at this time, or you feel your skills would be more beneficial here in Ireland, you can join a team of past volunteers and supporters in our Local Global Projects. These projects aim to develop and utilize your unique skills for the good of the poor and marginalised here at home.

This can be done through fundraising, awareness raising, advocacy, research etc. Keep an eye on this site to find out more about group meetings or drop us an email with 'local global update' in the subject bar to info@vlm.ie

Volunteering Overseas :::

VLM are committed to providing placements for volunteers to immerse themselves in projects where a sharing of skills and learning can take place. While a good number of our placements are in education-related projects, we also recruit professionals with experience in administration and project management, leadership and skills development (in agriculture, small businesses, and creative arts).

We respond to the primary needs of the host mission and we work hard at matching the needs of the mission with the skills of the volunteer. To date we have sent 60 Volunteers overseas and there has been an overwhelmingly positive response to the project. The Volunteers return home enlightened, enthusiastic and ready to engage in work and advocacy for equality. They also return home with a great affection for the country they have visited and admiration for the people they have encountered.
