Our First Volunteers on 2013’s Mission

Last week the first of our 2013 volunteers arrived in Ethiopia. Kathleen Conlon from Sligo and Vincent Conway from Dublin will be working in Atse Tekle Ghiorgis Primary School, over the coming weeks to assist students of the school with their preparation for the end of year exams. Learning English is central to the school curriculum in Ethiopia as a good standard of both spoken and written English will secure a place in further education.

Kathleen and Vincent are both retired primary school teachers with a wealth of experience to bring to the students of Atse. Kathleen has been volunteering with VLM since 2008 and Vincent has been with us since 2010, and both have been facilitating Atse’s annual summer programme over the past few years. The Daughters of Charity administer the school for over 700 students from five to fifteen years of age, including a Montessori pre-school,  in a disadvantaged area in Addis Ababa. VLM are currently recruiting volunteers to assist at Atse’s Summer programme. Click here to apply.
