“My past two summers in Ethiopia, from the bustling city of Addis to the muddy jungle town of Nekemte were both real embracings of a truly awe inspiring culture and its people. If you crave something outside the box and are prepared to give of yourself fully then volunteering with VLM is definitely for you.”

“The children in the summer school were lovely – lively and cheerful. It is essential over there to have a good command of English if you want to go to secondary school and our task was to help the children achieve this. As many of the children were once ‘street’ children it challenged my teaching skills but it was an enjoyable experience and I hope to go back again!”

“All the children in the school love the volunteers and expect them to come back every summer. We love how they teach and how it is a good chance for the children to hear a foreign accent. Not only this, the volunteers also bring a sense of world-wide unity and a connection with our brothers and sisters in Ireland.”

– Sr Elsa Bazini DC, director of St. Joseph’s Primary School, Bulbula

“If you’re up for a challenge and interested in immersing yourself in a completely different culture, volunteering with VLM in Ethiopia is for you. It was an experience I will never forget in my whole life time. The Ethiopian people are an incredibly warm and welcoming people, despite the difficult conditions in which they live. It is a life changing experience focusing on enhancing people’s lives for the better and would certainly recommend it”
