Welcome Home to Our Summer Volunteers

Welcome home to our volunteers who worked in Addis Ababa, Mekele and Bulbula during the summer. These volunteers, mainly primary and secondary school teachers, delivered English language summer programmes at projects run by the Daughters of Charity and the Vincentian Fathers. Children attending these summer programmes were treated to arts, crafts, sports, drama, music and other activities through English for over four weeks. VLM volunteers were assisted by local volunteers, who enjoy working at the annual summer schools.

VLM will begin recruiting volunteers for the 2014 summer programmes next spring. Ideally, we seek volunteers with a background in teaching, youthwork, childcare, music, sports, arts and crafts or drama. Volunteers enjoy working with the children who generally come from some of the most disadvantaged neighbourhoods in Addis Ababa and Mekele as well as the rural town of Bulbula. These projects also welcome volunteer teachers during term-time so if you are interested in volunteering in Ethiopia this winter or indeed if you would like to apply to be part of a summer programme team next year you can in touch with Mary Anne for more details.
